reflection on spreadsheet

I was wondering how the teacher produces graph and chart, store and sort data. I didn’t have a little idea that spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel provides the tool to analyze and visualize data sets in accessible ways until I take the FIT class in PCE. Within these 3 years in college, I have learned how to build a spreadsheet and I also looked at the benefits of building a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is an electronic document in which data is arranged in the rows and columns of the grid and can be manipulated and used in calculation  Spreadsheets are used primarily in business to allow for quick calculations and creating charts/graphs based on the value within the specified cell. They can also be used for complex calculations/functions that might be needed.  I have designed a graph and result of my classmates in spreadsheet Excel.

After building the spreadsheet based on the data collected from my classmates and making my classmates’ result in Microsoft Excel, I have seen lots of facilities and benefits from building a spreadsheet. Now I am going to talk about spreadsheet in general.  The facilities of spreadsheets include representing information in the form of graph and chart. The grid encasing the cells in the spreadsheet can either be visible or hidden in print outs, enabling reports to be formatted from the display of the spreadsheet.
When we build a spreadsheet, we enter data into a worksheet. Each data item is stored within a single cell. Cells can also contain formulas either written by us or chosen from a predefined set designed for common tasks. For example, I could have a cell in a spreadsheet that performs a calculation using the values from other cells. If I then update the values in other cells, the result in the formula cell updates as well. For this reason, spreadsheets offer a way to carry out continual analysis and calculations on our data sets automatically.

Storing and presenting data
A spreadsheet can store a small or large set of data within a system of cells, organized into rows and column. A cell can contain a data value or calculation such as sums or percentages. This means that within a spreadsheet you may find multiple data values as well as various types of calculation on those values. A spreadsheet program such as Excel typically contains visualization tools. This means we can select a data set and transform it into a graphical display. The type of display we use in any individual case depends on the nature of the data. In Excel, users can choose from a wide range of options including bar charts, line charts, and pie charts among many others. When you create a chart, you can configure display options such as coloring and labeling

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed your piece on Spreadsheets. The information is very rich and elaborate. The people who read your reflection will not going to regret I think. However if you could add some of your thoughts and experiences about using Spread Sheets, I would appreciate more.
