Reflection on making brochure

Sometimes, I wonder how our life would have been without ICT because ICT has become the most important tool in the 21st-century teaching and learning world.  ICT was not my preferred module when I was just new to college. Whenever there was a task to do related to ICT, my heart gets heavy as I was not exposed to it. Unfortunately, we were asked to make a brochure for the module called ‘Child development’ in the first year. I was bewildered when I heard the sound ‘Brochure’ and I wasn’t really aware of the phrase ‘brochure’ despite the fact that I have seen it.  Since I have little idea on ICT usage, I didn’t even think about searching for making brochure on Google.

So, I asked one of my year mates about making a brochure. She just told me to divide the Microsoft words page into three parts and put whatever materials needed in the brochure. At first, I thought that it is easy to make a brochure if our work is to just use the micro soft word and put everything in that 3 divisions of page.  I also did the same thing as she said by putting information and pictures to look brochure appealing and attractive. Though I was able to create it an attractive one, I got all my materials misplaced when I opened the document. I had a tough time placing the materials into its original place. So, I couldn’t produce a good brochure.

Usage of ICT is limitless and it never ends because the 21st century is a technology world. We were again assigned task on Health and Physical Education to make a brochure on any of the human body systems in 7th semesters.   I wasn’t left in bewilderment like I did in the first year as I have a little knowledge of what the term brochure means and how is made.  Right away, I searched on Google, how to make a brochure.  It gives a lot of information. Then, I used Microsoft PUBLISHER to make a brochure instead of Microsoft Word. It was much better than using Microsoft Word because the publisher is much simpler and effective. When we use a publisher, we can select shapes and graphics and drag them to precise locations within our document but can’t do that in Microsoft Word.

From these experiences, I came to realize that the “failure must teach us, or surely success will not reward us”.  I would have never known how the brochure will be made if I didn’t make a brochure in the first year though I hadn’t made it well.  Now I have good knowledge of making a brochure. With my awareness of using a publisher template to make a brochure, I could even teach my students in the near future.
This is the sample of my brochure.

reflection on spreadsheet

I was wondering how the teacher produces graph and chart, store and sort data. I didn’t have a little idea that spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel provides the tool to analyze and visualize data sets in accessible ways until I take the FIT class in PCE. Within these 3 years in college, I have learned how to build a spreadsheet and I also looked at the benefits of building a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is an electronic document in which data is arranged in the rows and columns of the grid and can be manipulated and used in calculation  Spreadsheets are used primarily in business to allow for quick calculations and creating charts/graphs based on the value within the specified cell. They can also be used for complex calculations/functions that might be needed.  I have designed a graph and result of my classmates in spreadsheet Excel.

After building the spreadsheet based on the data collected from my classmates and making my classmates’ result in Microsoft Excel, I have seen lots of facilities and benefits from building a spreadsheet. Now I am going to talk about spreadsheet in general.  The facilities of spreadsheets include representing information in the form of graph and chart. The grid encasing the cells in the spreadsheet can either be visible or hidden in print outs, enabling reports to be formatted from the display of the spreadsheet.
When we build a spreadsheet, we enter data into a worksheet. Each data item is stored within a single cell. Cells can also contain formulas either written by us or chosen from a predefined set designed for common tasks. For example, I could have a cell in a spreadsheet that performs a calculation using the values from other cells. If I then update the values in other cells, the result in the formula cell updates as well. For this reason, spreadsheets offer a way to carry out continual analysis and calculations on our data sets automatically.

Storing and presenting data
A spreadsheet can store a small or large set of data within a system of cells, organized into rows and column. A cell can contain a data value or calculation such as sums or percentages. This means that within a spreadsheet you may find multiple data values as well as various types of calculation on those values. A spreadsheet program such as Excel typically contains visualization tools. This means we can select a data set and transform it into a graphical display. The type of display we use in any individual case depends on the nature of the data. In Excel, users can choose from a wide range of options including bar charts, line charts, and pie charts among many others. When you create a chart, you can configure display options such as coloring and labeling

My Experiences on PowerPoint presentation

Reflection is what allows us to learn from our experiences.  I have analyzed and reflected back on the FIT module that I took when I was in the first year. To bring the real picture of my learning on PowerPoint presentation, I seek help from my FIT module tutor Thinley Wangchuck.

Before introducing the FIT module in our first year, I lack knowledge based on working with Microsoft power point presentation and other related necessary ideas needed to go on with an effective PowerPoint presentation.    Due to this, I was not able to prepare a good powerpoint presentation, and what I did was I just bought a chart paper and wrote everything that I need to present on chart papers.  How much I try to write neat, I couldn’t as I have bad handwriting.

text as well as pictures related to text
After learning about making PowerPoint presentation in the first semester in the first year, I am no longer condemned to read the handwritten presentation that can definitely kill the fun of learning.  Presenting the work through PowerPoint is much easier than writing on the chart papers.  Now I can create an engaging interactive presentation by using the advanced options of the PowerPoint presentation such as theme, colors, fonts, effects, layouts, background styles, etc.   When we make the presentation interactive, there will be fun and learning will be memorable.   For that, I can put the text as well as pictures related to text to provide highly engaging and visually attractive content.

PowerPoint presentation is the best tool that we are worth following when we want to create a quality presentation. We can give our presentation a professional look and make it easier for learners to follow by setting up a slide master to ensure a consistent layout. At this time, I know how the power point presentation should be made.  When we make a presentation, we should not overcrowd the slides with too much text as there is a chance that learners will fail to process it and ultimately, lose the key point. What we need to do is that we have to stick to the message. We should also focus on the color contrast where the background and font color should be prepared in such a way that it is visible to the audience. Therefore, the FIT module has been a beneficial tool in coming up with an effective PowerPoint presentation which brought a gradual positive impact on my learning.
