The powerful real-time collaboration and document authoring tool that I found so far is Google doc. I was unaware of this application until I learn in the ICT module. Google docs are the web-based editing program that allows us to create, share and edit documents through a secure networked system. Multiple people can edit a document at the same time, and every change is saved automatically. We can produce slide presentations, spreadsheets, drawings, and surveys.
There are lots of problems associated with group work especially with college students like us when we need to gather in a particular place. All group members cannot turn up to the discussion place. So, it is difficult to discuss ideas thoroughly as a team, and there is a conflict between team members. However, these problems could be solved now. The beauty of the Google docs system is that we can work on the document without gathering in a particular place. We can do our group work from any location.
Another loveliness of docs is that we can upload word or other text-based documents into the system and convert them to the online editing program. And invite the other people through email to collaborate on a document with us. From there multiple users (teammates or other people) can work on the same document in real time, adding pictures, editing content and putting the finishing touches on the document with internet access. It also allows the document owner to determine what privileges are given to each member. This means that document owners can grant individuals or groups the right to edit, view or just add a comment.
Docs allow multiple versions of documents to be stored, allowing us to roll them back to the previous document without losing any information. In this application, We can work with all popular file types by importing documents to make them instantly editable, including Microsoft Word and PDF files. When the project is complete, it can be saved and transferred to a desktop in word format. Hence, I request all of the people to use Google Docs the next time you need to do some writing.
Below photos are the evidence of using google docs by me.
we formed a group of 4 members and we worked on simulation as situating tool through google doc.
