ICT and its benefits

                     

            

Communication and information technologies have changed drastically from when ICT as and a level in my experience was simply reading, copying out of boo, memorizing and then taking an exam. Now, ICT has sped up and there is never a dull moment. In both schools and homes, ICT is widely seen as enhancing learning. This module has developed my understanding of the intensity of ICT and how ICT can be differentiated in many ways through the range of different virtual world’s software packages.

The use of ICT in education adds value in teaching and learning, by enhancing the effectiveness of learning. Calonge (2008) explains in his article that “virtual world’s support different learning styles and give students opportunities to explore, discover, and express their understanding of the subject”.  For example, ICT integration in teaching such as asking the students to find information on a particular topic from the internet or letting them watch movies / showing them animation on the topic that is going to introduce help the students having different learning styles compared to the technique used in the classroom before. Students can also create a blog or websites that contain ICT development.

Not only in education values but ICT also has a great impact on our daily lives.  For example, we can read our local newspaper using the online newspaper. Another example is we still can get connected with our family, relatives, or colleagues even if we are abroad by using the electronic mail, yahoo messenger, call conference, or video conference.  ICT helps individual to enable self- paced learning and it provides access to a wide range of up to date learning materials.

Technology made a big change for the new generations and new technologies define the lives of young people. Students’ today think and process information differently from their predecessors, as a result of being surrounded by new technology. Students can integrate their learning with 21st-century skills like collaborative learning, critical thinking, creativity, and interaction. Eventually, ICT has become an integral part of everyday life for many people.  It increases its importance in people’s lives as ICT literacy will become a useful requirement for people’s work, social, and personal lives.
